you realise how inconvenient for everybody it is if you delete the credit? you realise that photographers could see that, think the edit maker hasn’t credited them and report them/message them? somebody could see the edit, want to edit it themselves too, but not be able to find the original picture? you know you can change your theme so it doesn’t show captions when you reblog them?
if you hate captions then literally just make your own damn posts and don’t add captions. i’m not telling you how to run your blog i’m literally just telling you to be a decent person

it’s not copyrighted, therefore, no obligation whatsoever to keep a caption there if you don’t want it. this is why photographers should watermark things. it’s no one’s responsibility but theirs. your morals on this are irrelevant, he can run his blog however he wants. it’s not like he’s claiming the content as his own.
nice thoughts but unfortunately you’re wrong. most people that delete captions, the post doesn’t go anywhere. and fair enough. but when people start reblogging the post with no caption, which in this case they did, it WILL get around to the photographer, and people WILL think i haven’t credited it. it’s happened to me (and countless others) before and it will happen again. i don’t know if you make edits, or the person in the screenshot, but among the bandom edit community that i know - not crediting the photographer is a shitty thing. i don’t want my url associated with that. another one of the points i mentioned in the op is that maybe other people want to edit it too - i HATE it when i want to edit something but it has no credit. it just makes it easier for everybody!
also, 99% of photographers do watermark their stuff. i (and literally everyone else) always edit that out - another reason why the credit is so important. photographers are not the bad guys here.
